4′s January Blog

Happy New Year!

I would like to start by saying a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone for their effort, support and committment to the preschool during 2011.  We’ve had an awesome start to the year, with the children and families transitioning in smoothly and with much enthusiasm.  There is a great COOP feel, and it has been wonderful to watch relationships grow between both children and adults as people work together and support one another :)

I would also like to take this opportunity to say another HUGE THANK YOU for the generous and thoughtful Christmas gifts!  Your kindness and generosity are greatly appreciated.

I will admitt I was a bit overwhelmed at the thought of starting this blog so late in the year … where to start?  So many amazing things have taken place I would like to share with you.  I think to prevent writers cramp, and to ease you in gently, I will start from here … today.  As time goes by I may add some documentation from the past (September-December), here and there, in bits and pieces.  I would love to hear from you if there is a particular direction you would like me to take in the information and documentation I share with you.  Please feel free to offer your input and ideas :)

Some Important Reminders:

*Please remember to dress your children appropriately for the weather … as you have witnessed, we go out RAIN OR SHINE OR WIND OR SNOW :) The children love it, and I believe ample outdoor play is vital to a childs good health. The children all know the song “Hats and coats and boots and gloves, Boots and gloves, Boots and gloves, Hats and coats and boots and gloves, Keep us warm when it’s winter time!” (sung to the tune of head and shoulders) … sing it with them as you encourage them to dress independantly for outdoor play.  Don’t forget mud/snow pants too!

*Please LABEL ALL of your childrens belongings!  From cups to boots to mudpants.  It can be very confusing for the children to identify there own belongings amongst a sea of others …. And just as confusing for the adults when items are not labelled.  You should have seen us in the cubby area with all the mittens, hats, mud/snow pants etc today … We are pretty sure some children went outside in their friends items ~ Awe, they are sooooo good at sharing, lol! A permanent pen works beautifully on tags, or the insides of boots/shoes.

*Please check your childs art file regularily.  Children love to show off their work … Show them how important it is to you by putting it on display.  As new pieces are showcased and the artwork piles up, consider making a scrapbook, and using larger pieces for wrapping paper :)

Looking forward to many future entries, and creating a space for sharing your childrens preschool lives and experiences.
